Fire Extinguisher Refill
After an extinguisher has been used, even if only partially, it must be recharged or replaced. If the safety clip or tamper tag is missing a basic service should be carried out. However, if there is no service label and therefore no history it would be perfectly correct to carry out a test disharge.
Do not attempt to look inside the fire extinguisher to check the contents as most extinguishers are under permanent pressure that means that if you loosen the head cap it will be like releasing a champagne cork except it will cause a lot more damage and may break a rib or even hit you in the face!
Ring a reputabe fire extinguisher company like Fireline and they will send one of the friendly qualified engineers to your premises to put the extinguisher back into service. Rest assured if you don't ring its when you will need the extinguisher!
Most of the newer extinguishers are store pressure (have a pressure gauge) but they also may be cartidge operated in which case depending on the age or condition of the extinguisher it may be more interesting to purchase a new one as the cost of a cartidge plus refill is quite expensive. So ask for a price beforehand or ask our when our engineer when he is there and he will be able to advise you.
