FIRE DOOR MAINTENANCE AND REPLACEMENT
INTUMESCENT SEALS
The checking of your fire doors is necessary for various reasons, continual use and general wear and tear will eventually bring out its weaknesses, intumescent seals may be cracked, brittle and the brushes worn down and ironmongery may need replacement or oiling.
Also continual use will eventually cause the door to drop and gaps may occur reducing the effect on intumescent seals and fire safetly in the event of a fire.
Moisture assorption into the door and frame may also cause the distortion.
All of these points can affect the ability of the fire door to achieve its purpose which is to maintain safe the area in which it serves.
If you are responsible for fire safety we strongly recommend a 6 monthly maintenance check fire doors including essential oiling.
